Prosser, who is a partner at Prosser Johnson and former South Carolina tourism chief, spoke to delegates at the Joint International Seminar on Tourism Product Development. Conference organizers invited Prosser to present a case study about South Carolina’s tourism product development planning process, which was completed in 2010 and provides strategic recommendations for future investment in South Carolina’s tourism product offerings. Dublin-based Tourism Development International, working under contract for the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, completed South Carolina’s 8 regional tourism product development plans in 2010.

“I was honored by the invitation,” said Prosser. “It was a great opportunity to showcase the international leadership of South Carolina in the tourism industry,” he added.

Delegates from more than 20 European countries attended the seminar hosted by Ireland’s National Tourism Development Authority (Fāilte Ireland). Prosser was the only speaker from the United States.

Tourism Saskatoon is launching a prize-per-day contest In celebration of Saskatchewan’s Tourism Awareness Week June 5 – 11. Starting June 5, the public can enter a new contest each day on Tourism Saskatoon’s mobile site. Access our mobile site through your mobile device.

To promote Tourism Awareness Week and drive traffic to Tourism Saskatoon’s new mobile site, Tourism Saskatoon will be promoting the contest via social media, including Twitter @visitsaskatoon and on Facebook.

“Tourism is important to Saskatoon’s economy and we are taking advantage of this opportune time to draw attention to our city’s impressive tourism offerings and celebrate the experiences and memories they create for our visitors,” says JoAnne Wasko, Director of Markets, Advertising and Media with Tourism Saskatoon.

The prize for each day of the contest and the winner’s name will be announced the following morning on Tourism Saskatoon’s Twitter and Facebook accounts. The trivia question participants are required to answer will give a good indication of what the prize will be.

According to estimated figures by Tourism Saskatchewan, travel and tourism in Saskatoon alone generated an approximate $ 529.6 million in travel receipts in 2010. In August 2009, there were approximately 13,115 people employed in tourism-related jobs in the city of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Total traveller expenditures in the province of Saskatchewan were $ 1.634 billion in 2009, employing more than 62,000 people in the tourism sector. It is estimated that seven out of 10 workers got their first job in Saskatchewan’s tourism industry.

Led by the Tourism Industry Association of Canada, Tourism Week in Canada is June 6 – 12. This is the national celebration of Canada’s tourism sector and is organized by several public and private tourism stakeholders.
